James Holmes ( 13 of December  of  1987 ) is a mass murderer , being the author of the Slaughter of Aurora 2012 . He had no criminal record. 1  currently is in prison.
Holmes was hospitalized after attempting suicide several times in prison in November 2012. He is currently held without the possibility of parole. It was expected that his lawyers submit a statement of diminished capacity (which is different from a plea of ​​insanity), but they informed the judge at the preliminary hearing that they were not prepared to decide on that step yet and they needed more time taking into account the massive documentation on the case. William B. Holmes was born  13 as December  as  1987 ,. 2 Son Arlene Holmes, a nurse, and Robert M. Holmes, a mathematical and scientific.   5  His father holds degrees from  Stanford University , UCLA  and  Berkeley . 6  Holmes was raised in Castroville, California , where he attended elementary school in July  and  San Diego, California .   9  graduated in 2006 from Westview High School  in the community of Torrey Highlands  in San Diego.  October  In his youth, Holmes played soccer and ran cross country. His family attended a church Lutheran locally, according to the testimony of the pastor.November  December
In the summer of 2006, Holmes got an internship and worked at the  Salk Institute , where he was assigned to write computer code for an experiment. Holmes, who was described by his supervisor as persistent, uncommunicative and socially inept (early signs of sociopathic behavior), presented his project to the other inmates at the end of the internship, but never completed. 13  14  The Holmes himself wrote about his experiences in the Salk Institute: "I have little experience in computer programming and work was a challenge, in a nutshell Despite this, I learned to program in Flash and then built a model. trans-temporal calibration ... finish the project and present my model at the end of the internship was a relief ... In the summer of 2008, Holmes worked as acounselor at a summer camp in  Glendale, California , attending special children aged between 7 and 14 years. He was in charge of 10 children and had no disciplinary problems. 22  23
In June 2011, Holmes enrolled at the  University of Colorado in Denver  to study for a  doctorate in neuroscience at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. He was under psychiatric treatment (for unknown reasons) led by Dr. Lynne Fenton, who has discussed psychiatric responsibility in the event. 24
He received a grant of 21,600  dollars  from the National Institutes of Health , according to agency records. The grant was available from July 2011 to June 2012. His lawyers claim that Holmes was a psychiatric patient medical director of Mental Health Services for Students Anschutz Medical Campus Aurora before the shooting. However, the  Prosecutor disagrees with this statement. 37  38
Holmes warned other symptoms that assumed the presence of a mental illness, as well as alert them to potential danger some time before the shooting. Two weeks before the  shootout Aurora, she sent a text message rather cryptic and strange to a student whose identity is unknown, which asked if he had heard of "dysphoric mania". She replied, wondering if this condition could be treated. He replied in another message "was," and added "should stay away from me because I'm bad news (I am bad news)."

Holmes was initially jailed at Arapahoe Detention Center under suicide watch. 51  He is in solitary confinement to protect him from other prisoners, a measure of routine high - profile cases. 52

On January 10, 2013, a judge has decided that, with all the evidence in the case, Holmes is already competent to stand trial which took place in March 2013. 62
